1/27/2026 – Cold Weekends and Warm Blankets

Alright, I hope that whoever is reading these posts has remained warm this past weekend. Since that is exactly what I have been doing this entire time. Outside of the necessary things that I needed to do, this weekend was about staying beneath a blanket and keeping warm. That doesn’t mean that I was doing nothing though.

After writing that poem, I spent much of my free time brainstorming what the plot would be for the connected story. How would I introduce the characters, where would it take place in the world that is being designed. Since the story is going to be a romance, how would I frame the relationship between the main character and the love interest? What type of conflict would interfere with said relationship? Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

That said though, this would be essentially the fourth story that I have kinda started working on in the last year without having completed the other three. So I might need to change my approach and do some more outlining work before writing out the actual story. I just don’t have the time nor focus without approaching writing a story without a plan. Even with all the short stories that I have written, I still had a small outline for the sequence of events. Alibet those were very small and simple, so I didn’t need to write them down. With these bigger projects, I need to actually write them down in order to remember all of the details.

Yet that is the whole point of these postings here on this site, it is a means for me to keep a journal on how I work and proceed in writing. Helping me understand my writing style and seeing where I can improve myself. My old approach from my college days doesn’t work anymore. I just don’t have the free time now as I did then. I mean, seriously, I have a wall in my house dedicated to a book that I have been working on for the last ten years essentially. I’m essentially starting a third rewrite on that one, because I need to get reacquainted with the story and character. I also recognize that I originally wrote that story completely ten years ago, when I had more time. Now between life and the trials I have gone through, this year is about working on achieving goals that I have pushed aside and nearly abandoned.

So once again, I am going to restate the goals that I have set for myself:

Goals:

  • Develop a writing habit of 250 to 500 words a day, with a goal of at least 1,000 words a day.
  • Complete 1st Draft for ONE project that I am working on.
    • Project: Knight or Project: Lightbringer
  • The Author’s Instagram needs to be worked on so start working on posting there. It was created to help create a following in what I write. So Post there despite the nervous feeling in your gut.
    • (As an Update to this goal, I have posted six items so far to this account. I am doing well there, but I need to keep on writing in order to create more content. However, I is a good start so far.)
  • Write TWO Novellas. Short stories that are simple and no more than 30,000 words. Publish them so that you can start creating a backlog of novels. These are simple stories, so don’t get to overly complicated.

Thank you for listening to my ramblings, Adventurer, and I will aim to keep writing these posts on Tuesdays. That seems to be working best for me so far. Have a blessed day and stay warm out there.
